picjumbo, Happy New Years

Just a quick post to say Happy New Year to all you lovely people! Thank you so much for supporting me on my blogging journey so far and I can't wait to see what happens for me and, of course, for Fizzpoppers in 2016.

Here's hoping you don't feel too tender in the morning!

Tuesday, 29 December 2015

Hi guys, I hope you're all well. I can't believe it's 2016 at the end of the week, where has the time gone? The New Year is also a big reminder that mid-January, Rob and I will have been living in our house for a year; it really feels like no time has passed since we moved. Of course the big thing for us this year will be having Squidge sometime in February/March (I'm due 2nd March but it will be interesting to see when she actually arrives) and it's all becoming very real now as we're getting her nursery all sorted.

I was going through my makeup the other day and found my Urban Decay Book of Shadows IV palette which I haven't looked at in a while now as, lately, I've been going back to my Barry M Natural Glow 2 palette and I honestly forgot how lovely some of the shades are! My only issue with the BoS palette is the fact I only use 7 shades and the palette itself isn't exactly compact; it's a big cardboard box, albeit a very pretty cardboard box, and it takes up a lot of room. So, I decided to de-pot the shades I use the most.

Hi guys, I hope you're all well. Skincare is a big love of mine and I love to try anything new to see how it might affect my skin. I do tend to stick to lower end products, unless I can splash out on something a bit more high end that I know will last a while. Micellar Water is something that took the beauty world by storm and you can buy micellar waters from basically any and all brands because they're simple but effective.

I've tried a few different micellar waters so I was excited to try the new Nivea Daily Essentials Micellar Waters*. I was sent the Caring, Sensitive Caring and Gentle Caring waters, all specifically for different skin types. For reference, I have combination skin; oily across my nose and chin, normal on my cheeks and oily and dry on my forehead. These are typical Micellar Waters as they cleanse the skin and can be used to remove makeup but they all have the added benefit of being moisturising too, ensuring they're not stripping your skin of anything essential.

One Pot Chicken Alfredo Recipe

Hi guys, I hope you're all well! Sorry I've been quiet over the last week; I had lots going on with Squidge and didn't really have the time (or the concentration) to sit and write anything up. I haven't posted a 'proper' recipe posts, as such. I've blogged about Betty Crocker recipes before but nothing that we've done ourselves so this is officially the first proper recipe post here on Fizzpoppers.

I wish I could say I am the one who makes all these delicious meals but I'm not; it's all made by Rob who is 10 times more competent and confident with food. I can just about make beans and toast! So, while I can take credit for the words and images here, hats off to Rob for making yummy food and putting up my slightly picky eating habits.

This recipe is for One Pot Chicken Alfredo and it's amazing! It's incredibly easy to make (it's something I could probably do with supervision haha) and doesn't include a whole lot of ingredients either. It can be made without the meat ingredients if you're vegetarian and I personally prefer it without but, of course, tweak things to how you want.

Tummy Tuesday - 26, 27 & 28 Weeks Pregnant Update

Hi guys, I hope you're all well. So sorry for being so quiet on the blog over the last few weeks and that this is going up on a Wednesday and not a Tuesday. Our little Squidge has been very mischievous and caused us a bit of panic but all seems to be well. We've been sent back to my local hospital by my community midwife for a scan as I'm measuring small, apparently, so they want to double check she is growing as she should be - I'm not too concerned though, I can feel Squidge moving about all day long and, let me tell you, she's got some strength! My poor ribs can't cope very much longer, haha. Apologies for how I look in the picture below, I was just out of the bath, that's why my hair looks like that!

Tummy Tuesday - 25 Weeks Pregnant Update

Tummy Tuesday, 25 weeks pregnant, pregnancy, pregnancy update, bump, bump pics, baby bump blog, baby blog

Hey guys, I hope you're all well! I am 26 weeks pregnant tomorrow and I've finally made it back to work these last few days after essentially being off for two weeks. It's definitely a bit of a shock going back to work but I'm glad of it as not being paid really sucks! The date that I am going off on my maternity has been decided and it really isn't that far away; it's made everything seem so much more real. I just have to get December and January under me and then I'll be off. Not long to go at all!

Fun Winter Activities - Child Friendly Baking

lifestyle, baking, Betty Crocker, chocolate chip cookies, brownies, baking with kids, kid friendly baking

It's that time of the year when the weather changes and you have no hope of going outside without being soaked through or blown away like Mary Poppins and while we adults can generally deal with this, it's much harder for the little ones. Adam is 9 and full of energy and hates being cooped up - although, if he had his way, all he would do is play football outside or sit on the Xbox all day long. Sadly for him, the first can't happen and the second Rob and I won't allow to happen.

Tangle Teezer Review

Tangle Teezer, pink Tangle Teezer, haircare, brush, review

Hi guys, I hope you're all well. I'm pretty late to the Tangle Teezer bandwagon and boy, oh boy, do I wish I had bought one before! If you haven't heard of Tangle Teezer before it's a specially designed hairbrush which detangles your hair without pulling and causing any damage which can be used on wet or dry hair.

For reference, I have very long, thin hair and there is a lot of it so my hair tangles really easily. Rob also has a tendancy to twist my hair into lots of little knots and not tell me and these become monsters to get out without damaging the fudge out of my hair. So, because of this, I've been on the lookout for a decent hairbrush for a while that won't rip the head off me; I was using a standard paddle brush before.

My Autumn Makeup

beauty, makeup, face of the day, FOTD, make up of the day, MOTD, Benefit, Revlon, Barry M, beautyuk, Real Techniques, BB, Eyeko

Autumn is the time of year where the season really changes and that generally applies to fashion and beauty. I have to admit, I'm one of these people whose makeup doesn't really change year round and that's fine. There are no rules when it comes to makeup and I'm a big believer in doing what looks and feels right to you.

Tummy Tuesday - 24 Weeks Pregnant Update

pregnancy, Tummy Tuesday, 24 weeks pregnant, maternity

I can't believe I am 25 weeks pregnant tomorrow! While I feel like it's such a long time until 02 March but then I realise how much time has passed since finding out I was pregnant. 174 days pregnant... Crazy! Apologies for the awkward photo - I'm in my PJs (because I live in them) and yes, I am holding up my boob haha!

NIVEA Creme Limited Edition Tins

NIVEA, Nivea Creme, beauty, review, Christmas tin

I have always been a big lover of Christmas but I definitely feel the love has gone into overdrive now that I'm pregnant. Although baby won't be here for this Christmas, I'm already starting to imagine all the little things I can get for her. So, I'm blaming my hormones for my sudden extreme love of anything remotely related to the holiday and why I got so excited when I saw NIVEA Creme Limited Edition Tins* which have adorable Christmas illustrations.

If you've never tried NIVEA Creme before, let me give you the low down on a great product! NIVEA Creme was the original NIVEA product and has been around since 1911 and it's formula has always been very closely guarded as it's such a loved cream (more than 15 million tins have been sold). This is one of those amazing versatile products that has a multitude of uses; you can use it as a lip balm, face moisturiser, body moisturiser, you can even use a little on your hair - the list goes on, really!

Barry M Natural Glow 2 Palette Review

Barry M Natural Glow 2 Shadow and Primer Palette, Barry M, beauty, review

Barry M is a brilliant brand and they always surprise me with their fab quality products for prices that won't break the bank. It's one of the top brands I recommend to friends and family who want some decent makeup on a budget. The Barry M Natural Glow 2 Palette was a must when I saw it in Superdrug and I picked it up right away. Although I personally don't have the Urban Decay Naked palette, I thought this looked like a great alternative and for only £6.49 you can't complain!

Autumn/Winter Maternity Style

Hi guys, hope you're all well. One of the big things you have to deal with while pregnant is your ever changing body and, of course, that means having to buy yourself a brand new wardrobe. While everyone loves shopping, a lot of the time it's at the back of your mind as you have hundreds of other things to think about (making sure the nursery is ready, buying a travel system, buying bottles, buying baby clothes...) but it's important to think of yourself too.

Tummy Tuesday - 23 Weeks Pregnant Update

Hi guys, I hope you're all well. Tomorrow I am 24 weeks pregnant! It's still so strange to think I am over half way there but there is still a very long way to go before we reach March. There are definitely times I feel like this pregnancy is lasting for ever but we did find out super early. If you're interested you can also read Tummy Tuesday - 22 Weeks Pregnant Update to see how I was feeling last week!

LUSH Hot Toddy Shower Gel Review

LUSH is just one of those brands that everyone loves, right? I didn't try anything from them for ages and then one day a friend of mine bought me one of their bathbombs - it was Phoenix Rising, if you were wondering - and that was me hooked. Rob and I moved house in January of this year and I haven't had many baths this year so a lot of that was still semi-packed away, so I had forgotten I had this little gem waiting for me! LUSH Hot Toddy is a limited edition shower gel that is perfect for this time of the year. It's essentially Christmas in a bottle.

My Pregnancy Experience So Far

Hi guys, I hope you're all well! I haven't been feeling the greatest over the last few days and it reminded me that I haven't blogged on here about my pregnancy yet! I'm currently 22 weeks and a day while I write this on Thursday so every Wednesday is the start of a new growth period for baby (who we call Squidge, fyi)!

Rob and I have always talked about having kids and it was last December we decided it was time for me to come off my contraception and for us to start officially trying. I had been on the implant before and was told my fertility could come back right away or could take 12 months to regulate. Luckily for us, we found out we were pregnant on the 20/06/15 this year and, to be honest, even though that was the moment we had been gearing towards for months it just didn't seem real (cue me insisting we get a ClearBlue test to confirm so I didn't get my hopes up).

Autumn/Winter Favourites

Autumn is, without a doubt, my favourite season of the year. I love the changing of the leaves, the fact there's crisp days without being too cold, you have the perfect excuse to get snug in front of the fire and so much more! Of course, as we come into the colder months, our whole routines get an overhaul and this is no exception when it comes to all things beauty.

Tummy Tuesday - 22 Weeks Pregnant Update

Hi guys, hope you're all well! This is going to be a new weekly series for the rest of my pregnancy! I couldn't think of a play on words for bump, so Tummy Tuesday will have to do, haha. I'm not wanting to do Mummy Monday posts until Squidge is here, either. This is a way for you guys to know whats going on with my pregnancy and it's something for my hubby and I to look over in the years to come!

Avon Advanced Techniques Moroccan Argan Oil Review

Hi guys, I hope you're all well. I've seen a real difference in my hair now that I'm pregnant; before my hair was always flat as flat can be and it's gotten oily very quickly whereas now there's a bit of volume and I find I'm not washing my hair as often as before. Because of this, I'm trying a little harder to have my hair look nice - I always took the lazy girls way out before - and I've been using the Avon Advanced Techniques Moroccan Argan Oil on my midlengths and ends.

Gone Girl Review

Hi guys! I hope you're all well. One thing you'll soon learn about me, is that I love reading. I can't think of anything that is better than getting lost in a good book, blog or article. I especially love fiction though. Getting lost in a world different to this - or just different to my everyday life - is an amazing thing!

So, I thought why not blog about books I love and maybe don't? and here we are! I had wondered for a while which book to start with for this little series and decided on Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn as it's the book I have most recently finished and one that will probably stick in my head for a while.

Fun Halloween Activities

Hi guys, Happy Halloween! I hope you're all well. Halloween is one of my favourite times of the year and I love doing little things for it. This year, as always, Rob and I left everything to the last minute (I only got paid yesterday so didn't have the money to get anything until then) but I'm glad we got a few things in to do with Adam - who, if you don't know, is my 9 year old step-son. We did most of our Halloween "celebrating" (is that the right word? Do you celebrate Halloween?) yesterday as Adam went home around lunch time today.

Hello, World

Hi guys and welcome to Fizzpoppers! This is, admittedly, the second time I have written an introduction post on this blog but after a long time and lots of thinking, I wanted a do-over (again) and here we are.

Just in case you don't know, my name is Rachael, I'm 21 and live in Northern Ireland, UK with my hubby Rob, step-son Adam and an array of pets. You can always have a quick read of my 'About Me' section if you want any more details!

You'll find beauty, lifestyle and parenting posts here and maybe the odd foodie post thrown in as well. I've been blogging on and off for years but wanted a fresh start on a new blog where I could document the little things that happens in my life, especially as I'm on a very exciting journey of being a first time Mum.

Thanks for reading,

Rachael x
